A Green Arizona?

My wife and I were talking about long-term living options for our family. We recently took a trip back to the Chicago area in February, and we agreed that’s out.

We love our house and the church we go to. We love the weather in all but 2 months of the year, and the cost of living is right. There are two big problems: terrible public school system, and pollution. So I ask you, yes all 6 of you who actually read this, does anybody know of any efforts underway in AZ to clean up the pollution? If so what? I’ve looked at the usual suspects, but I can’t figure out what we are doing to clean up the air in this dust bowl.

Is it time for a green movement in AZ? Who’s with me?

Update: Here’s a movement by a previously successful clean-up advocate

So you don’t see the “brown cloud” as a nice warm blanket that keeps us all safe and healthy? I can’t remember the last time I woke up without having a slight or not-so-slight cough.

Research shows a significant and on-going rise in cardiopulmonary deaths caused by an increase in airborne particulate matter. These tiny, downright adorable particles tend to cause cancer if they’re less than five microns in size (many that we breathe in Phoenix every day fit in this category).

It used to be that “lungers” came here to breathe easy. Now those that would be otherwise healthy are developing asthma, cancer, exploded heart disorder, etc.

I am totally on the bandwagon for a green movement. It’s the only way to guarantee that the undereducated kids coming out of AZ schools don’t end up with asthma. Stupid people are annoying enough as-is, we don’t need them coughing all the time.

    Hi Unhappy Employee,

I just stumbled across your blog. A couple of weeks ago, I started AGreenArizona.org website to help raise money and support the going green movement in Arizona. The website is still in progress.

In your post, you asked if it is time for a going green movement in Arizona. I think it is. That’s certainly the goal of my website/project.

I hope I am not coming across as promoting my website, but if you like, please visit it, and I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts, input, or criticisms about the concept. I am always looking for constructive feedback.

    Thank you!
